The main cause is the dehydration of the skin in most cases in women and persons over 60 years. Two reasons may explain the phenomenon of dry feet:
• First, the intercellular lipid cement deteriorates with age - cement that is used to regulate the passage of water through the skin. If changed, the flow will not be controlled and the water will run away without hindrance, and the tissues will dry up;

The chapped heels are the result of repetitive micro-trauma to the back of the foot. These are produced by the impact of the heel against the sole and are accentuated when using a type of footwear.
Faced with these recurrent attacks, the skin of the foot and heel triggers a defense reaction: hyperkeratinization. During normal renewal of epidermis, keratinocytes that constitute it migrate from the basal layer (the innermost) to the stratum corneum (skin surface) by about 40 days.
